With the development of new power systems and the continuous increase in the proportion of new energy installed capacity, the application scale of power electronic equipment as a means to support renewable energy grid connection, transmission, and flexible control is constantly expanding, demonstrating sustainability. As the first line of defense to ensure the safe operation of the power system, relay protection equipment is crucial for the safe and stable operation of the power grid. With the construction and changes in the form of new power systems, and the increasing complexity of source, grid, and load characteristics in the system, relay protection in new power systems is facing new challenges, such as 1) The complexity of the fault characteristic mechanism of new power systems. 2) The reliability and sensitivity of protection principle in new power systems are insufficient. 3) The existing protection technologies have not fully considered the fault control characteristics of new power systems. 4) The research on artificial intelligence and advanced algorithms in new power system relay protection technology lacks depth. 5) The performance of fault location and fault recovery in new power systems needs to be further improved. Therefore, relay protection is the core and key technology that should be broken through in the new power systems.

Junjie Hou, Associate Professor at Xinjiang University, IEEE member, member of the CSEE, member of the IEEE PES Power System Protection and Control Technology Committee Subcommittee, expert in thesis review by the Ministry of Education, and a top 1% highly cited scholar by CNKI. Editorial board member of 《Scientific Reports》. Young editorial board member of 《Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems》, 《Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering》,《China Electric Power》, and 《Electrical Measurement & Instrumentation》. Guest editor of 《Electronics》and 《Sustainability》. And a peer reviewer for over 20 high-impact domestic and international journals. Graduated with a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University. Engaged in research on power system protection and control for over 10 years. Hosted two National Natural Science Foundation projects. Besides, Hosted or participated in over 20 vertical/transverse projects. Published or accepted over 100 high-level academic papers and applied for nearly 20 invention patents. Among them, 51 high-level papers were published/accepted as the first author/corresponding author (including 25 SCI-indexed papers and 22 EI-indexed papers). The H-index of Scopus is 17(Scopus ID: 57202402887).

Co-chair: Dr. Zainan Li, Chongqing University, China

Li Zainan, Ph.D, Assistant research, his main interests are flexible DC transmission control and protection research, and renewable energy power system control and protection research. He has published 15 papers as the first author/corresponding author in SCI/EI journals such as IEEE and Proceedings of the CSEE. He has granted 5 invention patents, and is a reviewer of international authoritative journals such as IEEE TIE, TSE, and TPD, etc. He was awarded the Second Prize of the State Grid Provincial and Ministerial Levels and the Gold Prize of the Geneva International Invention Exhibition.
